English as a Second Language for Adult Learners
Welcome to the Bayonne Adult
English as a Second Language Program
We are pleased to offer Adult English as a Second Language (ESL) classes at the Bayonne Public Library again this fall. Classes will begin the week of October 12.
Applications for classes are being accepted now and are found at the top right corner of this page.
Please complete an application. This does not guarantee you a place in class. Due to limited space and teachers, we may not be able to accept all applicants.
We ask everyone to complete an application, and you will be notified by email to come in for testing on a date during the week of September 21. Once we have tested everyone, we will assign class levels. If the class is full, we may have to place some on a waiting list until a seat opens up, usually within a month or two.

About the Bayonne English as a Second Language Program
The classes are open to anyone in the Bayonne area seeking to learn or improve their English skills. Each class is run by a volunteer teacher, and focuses on life-skill communications. For example, talking to your children’s teachers, understanding your neighbors and being able to shop, visit the doctor and help your children in school. We offer a fun, informal and supportive environment for adults of all ages, from 18 years and older.
Please note: No children are allowed in class. There is no babysitting service available with this program.
The program is offered in partnership with the Bayonne Public Library.
Classes will be held at the library, located at 697 Avenue C, Bayonne, NJ Enter through door on 31st Street
Our learners find friendship and support during and after classes.
At the Bayonne Adult ESL Program, our learners enjoy a relaxed, friendly environment to study English.

IN MEMORIAM
In 2004, Sister Kay Coll, a Sister with the order of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chestnut Hill, PA, saw a need in Bayonne for an Adult English as a Second Language program, and embarked on this initiative. Our guiding light and our founder, she passed from this life in February of 2024. She remains our inspiration and our heart.
